Pia Waltari Holmberg has been teaching Swedish at SIS since August 2013. In 2001, she substituted here for two terms teaching Swedish in DP.
She started her teaching career in 1974 and from 1982 she has taught Swedish from foundation level all the way up to mother tongue level. For ten years she was responsible for introductory classes for new refugees in Sigtuna. She has been a supervisor for student teachers from the Teachers Training College of Stockholm and Uppsala. From 1992 she worked at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket and there she taught students in the IB-programme –DP and MYP. Over the last decade, she has mainly taught Swedish in the IB DP programme, grades 1-12, but also in MYP, grades 6-10. During this period she has been the IB-Workshop Leader for Swedish B, Europe and Middle East.
Pia is not only an experienced Swedish teacher but also academically qualified being a Bachelor of Arts in Literature, Swedish as a Second Language and Didactics. Her first qualification is as a Middle School teacher, graduating from Stockholm Teachers Training College in 1974, with main subjects Swedish and Religion.
Her first and foremost commitment is and has always been being a teacher in cooperation with her students.
